こんにちは。「映画を書くと頭が疲れる」で紹介されていたので観ました。調べてみるとソフト化されていない作品らしいのですが、YouTubeに奇跡的にありました。今アルフレッド・ヒッチコックの「鳥」（1963）を観ていて、それがこれでもかというくらいに切り返しを使っていることもありますが、この映画は登場人物のアップショットどころか、バストショットすらも数えるほどしか無く、また会話のシーンでの切り返しが一回も無い、何というかハリウッド映画の逆張りというか、客観主義の映画でした。最近黒沢清とか中島貞夫とかを観ていてそれにも通ずることなのですが、映画に流れる劇伴、ではなくて映画の中で本当に音楽を扱う時のあの感じは、多分何処かに元ネタがあるのだと思うのですが、僕はよくわかりません。多分ジャン・リュック・ゴダールとかだと思うのですが、その場面だけ変に陽気な雰囲気になるあの感じは何なのでしょう。「水の中の8月」（1998）は青春群像劇なのですがここでこうなって欲しい、という予想を裏切って来る感じが天邪鬼です。あとカメラワークとか構図が溝口健二に似ている、という意見を多数見かけて、やはり「雨月物語」（1953）はちゃんと観ないといけないと思います。確かに俯瞰のショットの美しさを再認識した映画でした。それと映画のドラマ性を否定して、それはドキュメンタリーに近いような我々が生きているこの現実世界のような、生活の繰り返しが強調されています。主人公が色々な人間に出会うのですが、主人公はどこか透明な存在で、あらゆる状況に対して無力でありそれはエドワード・ヤンの「牯嶺街少年殺人事件」（1991）に似ています。

こういう類の若者の鬱屈した青春の物語はこの後にも沢山あって、それらがこれのフォロワーなのか分かりませんが、この映画が一線を画しているのは、確信的なショットがあることです。悪く言えばこういう雰囲気系の映画は簡単に撮れそうな感じも無くもないのですが、水の中の映像をここまで効果的に、物語において確信的に使っているのが凄いです。ロケーションとかは黒沢清に通ずる廃墟やスクラップ工場など、また主人公が繰り返し行っている謎の行動なども似ています。そして長回しを時間経過として使うお洒落な演出が3回くらいあります。
