こんにちは。初めて楳図かずおの漫画を読みました。「ガキの使いやあらへんで！！」とかに出演している楳図かずおは観たことがありますが、正直こんなに凄い人だったのかと思いました。まだ1巻しか読んでいませんが、感想を書いておきます。この漫画は1972年から1974年まで少年サンデーコミックスで連載されていました。まず絵が上手です。目の大きさが漫画の登場人物にしては小さく、顔のバランスが取れています。物事をダイレクトに台詞で言う感じが永井豪の「デビルマン」（1972）っぽいな、と思い調べてみると同じ1972年に連載が始まっていて、しかし恐らく楳図かずおの方が僅かに先だと思われます。同じくある状況に閉じ込められた人間の群像劇ということでスティーブン・キングを思い起こしましたが、そのスティーブン・キングは1974年に「キャリー」でデビューしていて、あれ楳図かずお相当に凄いなと感じています。両者とも大元はハワード・フィリップス・ラヴクラフトだと思いますが、こんなに楳図かずおがアカデミックな作家とは知りませんでした。この漫画は絶対に行き当たりばったりでは描いていないことが物語の展開から分かります。僕が読んでいる大判の「漂流教室：楳図PERFECTION!（1）」では前半は学校しか世界が無くなったと思わせておいて、中盤からその外の世界が現れて、また並行世界である主人公の翔の母親が居る世界も存在することが分かっていきます。この漫画は台詞が直接的で悪く言えばお洒落さが無いのですが、僕はその気取らなさの方が好きです。狂い方も狂気の中に少しユーモアがあってリアリティがあります。そして現代ならば描けないかもしれない大量の子どもへの虐殺シーンを惜しみなく描いています。

2巻の中盤くらいまで読みました。正直展開は停滞している印象ですが、やはり子どもがちゃんと死ぬところが時代を感じます。全体的に感じるのは大日本帝国時代の日本に対する諷刺です。楳図かずおは1936年に生まれていて、全共闘世代とは少し違うかも知れませんがその時代を30代に経験していてそれに対する批判というか、閉鎖された空間で人間が陥る普遍的な反応なのかも知れませんが、どうしても特攻や国家総動員法を想起させるような子どもたちの行動から、どれだけ戦争時における日本が異常な状況だったのかを対比して考えることが出来ます。そして妄想から生まれたザリガニのような怪物の造形が素晴らしいです。読んでいて本当に恐怖を感じるくらいの気持ち悪さです。これ当時の子どもたちは自分たちと同じ年齢くらいの子どもが襲われるシーンはトラウマになったのではないでしょうか。

3巻全て読みました。巻末に半田健人の解説が書かれていてこの漫画の背景には1970年代始めの高度経済成長が終わりかけて、公害問題や環境破壊などの問題が表出してきた背景があるようです。正直言うと展開は無理やり感が否めない部分もあるのですが、それを補って余りある勢いがあって圧倒されます。
