こんにちは。この映画は黒沢清がスピルバーグを語るときに頻繁に出てくる映画の一つです。かなり昔に金曜ロードショーで観て、強烈な衝撃を受けたことを思い出します。僕としては前半のトライポッドが出てきて、ボストンに逃げるために主人公たち一家が、逃げ回る所までが凄く好きです。後半のトライポッドがしっかり描写されていく所から、少しクオリティが落ちる印象ですが、これもしっかり全て見せたい、というスピルバーグの意気込みを感じます。しかしやはり全て見えてしまうと案外こんなものか、という風に拍子抜けしますね。主演のトム・クルーズはスピルバーグ作品の常連ですが、レイチェル役のダコタ・ファニングや、「ミスティック・リバー」（2003）のティム・ロビンスなど、役者も良いです。

何度も書きますが、前半は本当に凄いです。日常が一気に非日常に侵されるスピード感と街が破壊されるカタルシスを観たことのない映像で見事に表現しています。最近特撮を観ていて、特撮にも言えることですが、住んでいる街が破壊されるその面白さは時代を問わずに人間にあるようです。書き忘れていましたが、映画で使われているカメラの露出か露光か分かりませんが、画面が白飛びするくらい光のフレアが映り込んでいて、一つ思ったのは、ガッツリCGを使うことを見越して、わざと画面に紗がかかっているようなものを最初から選び、CGの違和感を緩和させようとしたのかな、と思ったりしました。
