こんにちは。いつか書きたかったジョン・カーペンターについて書いてみます。本当は「遊星からの物体X」（1982）とか「ゼイリブ」（1988）の方も好きなのですが、「要塞警察」（1976）です。「遊星からの物体X」は今では評価が高まっていますが、発表当時はあまり評価されませんでした。何故かというとスティーブン・スピルバーグの「E.T」（1982）の二週間後に公開されたらしく、宇宙人の対照的な描き方が全く評価されなかったようです。正に不遇な監督です。

「要塞警察」にはジョン・カーペンターの映画の特徴が分かりやすく表れています。密室での群像劇、バイオレンスなアクションなど、通俗的でとても痛快です。黒沢清がストーリーにおいての省略が上手い、と言っていましたが、この映画も敢えて説明を省くことでスタイリッシュな構成になっています。冒頭の女の子の虐殺から、警察署に包囲されるまでのテンポの良さ、そして犯人グループが乗り込んでくる時のまるでシューティングゲームかのような、カット割と只無言で殺されていく犯人たち。ハードボイルドな女、キザな男、最後まで喋らない父親。格好良い映画でした。音楽も良かったです。観ていてリチャード・フライシャーに似ている気がしました。

A hard-boiled woman, a crimward man, and a father who doesn't talk to the end. It was a cool movie. The music was also good. I felt like Richard Fleischer when I saw it.
