こんにちは。スピルバーグは実はあまり観ていないのですが、凄い監督だということは分かります。僕が観ている映画は「E.T」（1982）「宇宙戦争」（2005）「シンドラーのリスト」（1993）「マイノリティリポート」（2002）とかです。なにしろ多作な監督ですからあれもスピルバーグだったのか、みたいな映画もあるでしょうね。「ペンタゴンペーパーズ」（2017）はアメリカでは有名な話らしいです。あらすじを書くとベトナム戦争に関する機密情報を公開するか否かで、政府と新聞社が対立する話です。観ていて「踊る大捜査線」に似ているなと思いました。働く大人をかっこよく撮っているなという印象です。主演の二人はトムハンクスとメリルストリープです。メリルストリープは初めて演技を見たのですが、夫が亡くなり本意ではなく会社を経営することになり、役員の男たちに振り回される女性を巧く演じています。彼女の周りでは会社の重役の男たちが色々な意見を言います。この映画は彼女の決断までの流れ、彼女が自分の本当の意見を言うことがカタルシスになっています。トムハンクスの演技は日本でいう役所広司の演技と似ていると思いました。個人的に気になったのはやたらカメラがハンディで動くカメラワークが多かったことです。黒沢清がインタビューでいっていたのですが、スピルバーグは撮影監督を変えたことで、それまでファンタジー色が強かった映画に冷淡な画面が加わり、丁度良くなったらしいです。まるでその場にいることを追体験するかのようなカメラの動きは観客に感情移入させることが狙いでしょうね。スピルバーグは「未知との遭遇」（1977）とか観てみたいです。本当にずっと第一線にいるイメージがあります。

この記事を書いてから丁度一年経ちました。まだ「未知との遭遇」は観ていません。今回観て思ったのは、最近はどちらかというと娯楽性よりも芸術性を重視した作品ばかり観ていたので、シンプルなエンターテインメントがこんなにも面白いのか、ということを再認識しました。キャサリン（メリル・ストリープ）が、周りの意見に流されて、幽霊のような存在だったのが、裁判所から出てくる時に通りの人々がキャサリンを認識してじっと見つめる、みたいな演出とか良かったです。これはノンフィクションの話なのですが、出てくる建物の撮り方や、光の使い方でまるでSFのような効果を生むことが出来ます。ベン（トム・ハンクス）のデスクに脚を掛ける癖とか、彼のキャラクターがかなり映画の面白さに繋がっています。こういう傍若無人なキャラクターは一人居ると話が展開しやすいです。勧善懲悪の話は、結末が分かっていてもやっぱり観終わった時に爽快な気分にさせられます。裁判の判決を電話で皆が聴くシーンは何度観ても感動します。
