こんにちは。漫画で外国人の顔立ちを描こうと思って、良い資料を探していたのですが、ふと映画の場面を切り取って描いた方が写真を見るよりも良いだろう、と思い至って顔が綺麗に映っている映画を探しているとゴダールに行き着きました。恐らくこんな映画の見方をしている人は居ないと思いますが、僕の場合は音を出さずに映像だけを観ます。この「男性・女性」（1966）はウィキペディアで調べると色々と面白い映画の時代背景があって翻訳があれば是非きちんと観たいのですが、まあ映像を見るだけでもなんとなく話はわかりました。西洋人の顔立ちは彫りが深いだけでなく、鼻の下の口の形なども東洋人とは少し異なります。長回しでの演技は現在のメジャーな映画では滅多に使用されませんが、今観ている映像が映画なのか何なのか分からなくさせる効果があります。ゴダールっぽい映画というものが僕にもようやく分かりました。前衛的で実験的な試みはどんなジャンルでも存在しますが、一般には受け入れられなくても物好きのマイノリティには必ず響くものがあります。商業主義と芸術主義は相容れない物ですが、その両方の間で揺れ動いている状態が一番良いのかも知れません。
映画には関係ない話ですが、サイレント漫画を調べているとトーマス・オットという漫画家を知りました。画材にスクラッチボードという黒い墨の板を削って描くものを用いているため絵の印象が暗いです。話も死や殺人など暗いテーマを取り扱っています。普通の方がどういう風にこういった作品と向き合うのかわかりませんが、僕の場合はこんな暗いものを描き続ける精神力を尊敬してしまいます。不安を呼ぶような絵、ということで思い出すのは諸星大二郎ですが、こういった暗い話を描き続けることは本当にストレスがかかります。だからこそアングラ文化は根強いコアなファンを生み出すのでしょうね。今インターネットで調べても、トーマス・オットの情報が全然出てこないのですが、日本の検索エンジンだからかもしれません。スイスの方らしいのでスイスでは有名なのでしょうか。

It has nothing to do with the movie, but when I was investigating silent comics, I found out about a manga artist named Thomas Otto. The impression of the picture is dark because it uses a black ink board called scratch board as an art material. The story also deals with dark themes such as death and murder. I don't know how ordinary people face these works, but in my case, I respect the mental strength to continue to draw such dark things. It's Daijiro Morohoshi that reminds me of a picture that makes me feel anxious, but it's really stressful to keep drawing such a dark story. That's probably why Angra culture creates strong core fans. Even if you look it up on the Internet now, Thomas Otto's information doesn't come out at all, but it may be because it's a Japanese search engine. Is it famous in Switzerland because it seems to be Swiss?
